Organiser: The MSL

Author(s): Yusuke Izumi, MBA

Abstract

Background: Effective Medical Science Liaison (MSL) performance measurement requires a comprehensive framework that captures the multidimensional nature of MSL contributions to pharmaceutical organizations and healthcare systems.

Objective: To establish a three-pillar framework for MSL performance measurement encompassing value creation indicators, patient outcome linkage, and return on investment consciousness.

Methods: This conceptual framework was developed through analysis of current MSL performance measurement practices, integration of established business performance measurement principles, and consideration of pharmaceutical industry-specific requirements.

Results: The three-pillar framework provides a balanced approach to MSL performance measurement, addressing both strategic and operational requirements while maintaining focus on ultimate patient benefit. Each pillar contributes essential perspectives on MSL effectiveness and organizational value creation.
